GST Increase Mystery Solved!

Wait for What Will Come was a book I read back in high school by a popular Gothic mystery writer, and that title has proven to be good advice to live by. Patience will be rewarded - eventually.

Today I got a notice in the mail from the BC government telling me that I've received a BC Climate Action Tax Credit of $50 on my latest GST credit cheque, and it also said that for the next two GST cheques, I'll get an additional $25 of BCCATC.

So, on the one hand, I'm glad to see the federal government isn't trying to bribe me, but on the other, I'm more than a little cynical about this BCCATC thing because it seems to me to be a bribe from our intrepid premier, Gordo. Everyone in the province did receive a $100 cheque when the provincial carbon tax came into effect back in June, and that was bribe enough (I put the $100 into my ING account and am going to put it towards my train pass in May).

Gordo has also recently nixed the toll on the Coquihalla, which was $10 for cars. Well, woo-frakking-hoo! Big bloody deal! If you don't use the stupid Coquihalla, this is a pretty meaningless gesture - and thousands of people do not use it, so WTF?

And now, us "low income" types (people who make under $34, 999) are getting $100 extra this year to help neutralize the impact of the provincial carbon tax. (Is is a coincidence that since June 1 the price of a 4L jug of 1% has gone up 50 cents? I don't think so!)

So what are you going to pull out of your ass next, Gordo? I can hardly wait for it! I just have to be a little more patient, I guess!

I won't get all political here but my husband and I keep joking that if the presidential candidate that we DO NOT WANT gets elected then maybe we will move to Canada. Guess we better face the fact that the grass isn't necessarily greener! ;-)
